Toronto |Tkaronto — The campaign Cooperate for Canada (C4C) is advising progressive parties in this country to follow the lead of the Left-Green alliance in France.
The willingness of progressives in France to work together to avoid splitting the vote meant that the far right didn’t do as well in the election as some feared.
“We were delighted to see that parties on the French left were willing to put their country ahead of their parties’ needs,” said Barbara Schumacher, Cooperate for Canada. “Given the surge in the polls for Polievre, we feel the same strategy is needed here.”
C4C will be working until the next federal election, expected in October 2025, to convince the Liberals, NDP, Greens, and the Bloc as well as their supporters to cooperate in 50 or more ridings. This could mean pulling certain candidates or running paper/token candidates.
“As the people of France recognized, we can’t act as if future elections are ‘business as usual’ when an aggressive, well-funded, extreme right-wing is on the rise,” Marilyn Hay, Cooperate for Canada, noted.
The Cooperate for Canada website provides Canadians with insight about the urgent need for cooperation between the progressive parties, how to get involved, and more.
