Media Release: Carney Must Unite the Centre/Left Against Existential Threats to Canada

March 24, 2025

Toronto – Cooperate for Canada (C4C) is calling on Prime Minister Mark Carney to promote unity among the Liberals, NDP, Green Party, and Bloc Québécois to prevent a Conservative win in the federal election.

“Canada’s independence is being threatened,” said Barbara Schumacher, Cooperate for Canada. “The centre/left parties must work together to prevent Pierre Poilievre–endorsed by Elon Musk–from winning. Putting partisan interests ahead of a unified response to Trump would be a betrayal. The Liberals may be the frontrunners now, but with so much political unpredictability, we cannot be complacent.”

Poilievre, who refuses to apply for security clearance, has been endorsed by other dangerous far-right ideologues, including Joe Rogan, Alex Jones, Jordan Peterson, and Tucker Carlson. Should he become Prime Minister, the potential destructive influence from them or others on Poilievre is deeply concerning.

“The Liberals came to power 10 years ago promising electoral reform–they failed to deliver,” said Marilyn Hay, Cooperate for Canada. “Now, Carney needs to ensure that our dysfunctional electoral system does not grant victory to Poilievre’s increasingly far-right, ‘Maple MAGA’ CPC.”

Once again, C4C thanks Green Party Co-Leaders Elizabeth May and Jonathan Pedneault for their public support of electoral cooperation. The party has called on Carney, Jagmeet Singh, and Yves-Francois Blanchet to engage in serious cooperation talks with them.

Although recent polling shows the Liberal party as frontrunners, C4C is compiling a list of ridings where the other centre/left parties are more likely to beat the Conservative Party to avoid splitting the vote. In some of these ridings, the Conservatives won with the support of just 36% of voters.

“As Trump and others threaten our sovereignty, Canadians have never been so united,” added Schumacher. “This is no time to divide us into competing progressive parties and gamble on the outcome. There is too much at stake.”
