TORONTO, April 29, 2025 – After an intense election period, Cooperate For Canada (C4C) congratulates Prime Minister Carney on winning a strong minority government. C4C calls on the Prime Minister to work collaboratively with the smaller parties to hold a stable government, maintaining Canada’s social programs and promoting a greener, more egalitarian country.
“We are heartened that Canadians have not fallen prey to the divisive fear-mongering that we see from the US government,” said Barbara Schumacher, Cooperate for Canada. “Canadians know they are best served when parties put aside their political interests to work together.”
C4C began its campaign in 2023 hoping to convince the Liberals, NDP, Greens, and Bloc leaders to avoid splitting the anti-Conservative vote in key ridings. The unexpected surge in Liberal popularity after former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau resigned created a new problem: protecting political diversity in the House of Commons.
“Cooperation between the Liberals and NDP in the last Parliament delivered much needed dental care and Pharmacare programs,” said Marilyn Hay, Cooperate for Canada. “Given the threats to Canadian sovereignty and Prime Minister Carney’s ambitious economic agenda, the voices of other parties speak for the most vulnerable, for our environment, for French language and culture, are more necessary than ever. We call on the Prime Minister to listen and work with these parties for the betterment of Canadians.”
In the same spirit, C4C urges parties to end divisive, American-style politics in the House of Commons.
“Canadians have lost interest in the circus of soundbites that Question Period has become,” adds Schumacher. “We call on all the parties to remember the underlying intentions of our parliamentary system and use this time to work substantively on legislation that serves people, not partisan politics.”
