Take Action: Individuals
Canadian citizens have power when we work together.
We need as many voices as possible to urge progressive Leaders to cooperate for the next election because we need a government that will implement policies that put the best interests and the future of Canadians ahead of corporate interests. It is urgent to take action to prevent Poilievre from taking control of the federal levers of power.
Actions for Individuals
1. Sign the Citizen’s Letter to Federal Party Leaders
Tell the NDP, Liberal, Greens, and Bloc that electoral cooperation is possible and necessary to win seats in the House. With cooperation our government will be empowered to enact policies that will strengthen our democracy and address the multiple crises facing Canadians today. We encourage you to share this Letter with your network to send a stronger message to the progressive Party Leaders.
2. Sign the Voting Pledge
Make a personal commitment to vote for the Unity Candidate* or the progressive Candidate in your riding with the best chance of defeating the CPC Candidate in the upcoming election**. We encourage you to share this action with your network to help grow support for cooperation.
*The Unity Candidate is the Candidate who has the best chance of defeating the Conservatives Candidate – identified by the leaders of progressive Parties or local Riding Associations, acting in collaboration.
**Use the most recent polling data to determine which progressive Candidate has the best chance of defeating the Conservative Candidate. Polling data is available for every riding in Canada on 338Canada.com, an independently owned site created and managed by Philippe J. Fournier. The data is updated on an ongoing basis.
3. Send a Letter to your Riding Associations
Riding associations are the backbone of local candidacy and, with direction from the Parties, make campaign decisions based on their local ridings. A key part of our strategy is to encourage riding associations in targeted ridings to Cooperate for Canada by: keeping debates/criticism focussed on the CPC platform and policies; not running a candidate in a riding where they are likely to lose but will split votes; running a paper candidate (basically a placeholder candidate that doesn’t receive support or funding in favour of utilizing those resources elsewhere). Sending letters is a great way to ask riding associations to Cooperate for Canada.
We encourage you to make use of the Sample Letter and make use of the talking points, our brochure and toolkits we have put together.
4. Meet With or Call your Riding Associations and/or Candidates
Talking directly with your local candidates and riding associations is the best way to ensure they hear and address your concerns about the next federal election. We have put together some examples of talking points to make an argument for cooperation specific to your riding. We also encourage you to share our brochure and toolkits.
5. Write Letters to the Editor
Writing letters to your local/community papers is a great way to get our message out and initiate conversations in the public arena. You can also encourage local allies, and individuals in your area to do the same.
We encourage you to make use of our sample letters and talking points.
6. Volunteer / Join a Local Chapter
Insisting that federal party leaders Cooperate for Canada is a huge ask that will not happen without an enormous amount of pressure. We need people, and a lot of them!
Do you love crunching polling numbers or researching House voting histories? Maybe you are a social media guru, graphic designer or videographer. Maybe you’d rather get out there and talk to people, hand out brochures or table at events. We need all kinds of folks to get the people power needed to make this plan happen.
If you would like to find out more about volunteering at the organizing level, or if you are interested in connecting with other people who have joined our campaign in your area, email us using the link below.
6. Become a Community Leader / Start a Chapter
In this first stage of our strategy, we are looking for community leaders to help mobilize people in their ridings to apply local pressure on riding associations and spread the word about the benefits of electoral cooperation in the current political climate.
If you are interested in becoming a community leader or in starting a chapter, please let us know using the link below.
