Toronto – As the Trump/Musk team systematically tears US democracy apart and threatens Canada, Cooperate for Canada (C4C) is advising Ontario’s centre/left parties how to work together against admitted-Trump-supporter Doug Ford.
Ford recently revealed that he was “100% happy” when Trump – whose far-right and anti-democratic policies were well known – won a second term as president. Even though Ford is now playing “Captain Canada” vs Trump’s tariffs, this revelation must galvanize the Liberals, NDP, and Greens to prevent another destructive Conservative majority.
“The leaders’ debate showed few differences among the Liberals, NDP, and Greens as they tried to expose Ford’s various crimes,” said Barbara Schumacher, Cooperate for Canada. “So why do these parties insist on dividing up the vote and letting Ford win? They need to face reality – and fast!”
The Conservatives won 35 ridings in the last provincial election with just 36 to 45% of the vote. This was because 55 to 64% of the votes against them were split among the Liberals, NDP, and Greens. This scenario was a repeat of 2018. It’s about to happen again.
Cooperate for Canada is asking the Liberals and NDP to step back in ridings where they have no chance of winning. They would then support the progressive candidate with the best chance of defeating the Conservatives. The Green Party would step back in ridings where this would be most strategic.
Because the official withdrawal date has passed, Cooperate for Canada is asking candidates to publicly endorse the progressive candidate in these swing ridings who can beat the Conservative. It was done in Eglinton-Lawrence; it must be done elsewhere.
“Trump-lite Ford has been destroying our healthcare, education, environment, and undermining our democracy,” said Marilyn Hay, Cooperate for Canada. “What more warning do we need that this is not a normal election? Urgent times demand urgent actions. We hope the progressive parties act now!”
