Media Release: More Unity Heroes Endorse Fellow Candidates to Prevent Vote-Splitting, Sarah Harmer Supports Cooperate for Canada

February 25, 2025

Toronto – As the provincial election approaches, support for electoral cooperation is growing, reports Cooperate for Canada (C4C).

Two more provincial candidates have thrown their support behind the party they think is best positioned to defeat the Conservatives in their riding. And, Juno-award-winning singer/songwriter Sarah Harmer has endorsed Cooperate for Canada on her Facebook page.

In the riding of Waterloo, Green candidate Shefaza Esmail announced that she wants voters there to support NDP incumbent Catherine Fife. She made it clear that she was concerned about vote-splitting which could lead to a win for the Conservatives.

In Kitchener-Conestoga, Green Party candidate Brayden Wagenaar endorsed the NDP candidate at an all-candidates meeting last week. He repeated that endorsement last night at a similar meeting.

Before the official candidate withdrawal date, NDP candidate for Eglinton-Lawrence Natasha Doyle-Merrick
announced that she was stepping aside to give the Liberal candidate a better chance to defeat the Conservatives. The group Not One Seat, C4C’s partner in Toronto, gave her an online medal.

“Candidates Esmail and Wagenaar join Natasha Doyle-Merrick in putting the province before their own
party’s interests,” said Barbara Schumacher, Cooperate forCanada,, “Like Natasha, they are electoral heroes. As the polls favour a Conservative majority, we call on others to speak out.”

“We are also delighted that much-loved Sarah Harmer has joined the fight to oppose vote-splitting among the Liberals, NDP, and Greens by directing voters to our website,” said Marilyn Hay, Cooperate for Canada.
